The assassination of Samuel Paty on October 16, 2020 in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine in France, sadly put freedom of expression back in the spotlight. The history-georgraphy teacher had, to illustrate a course on freedom of expression, shown his students caricatures of Muhammad a few days before his death. By targeting Samuel Paty, his assassin wanted to attack this vital freedom to use the right to caricature and blasphemy, so dear to cartoonists.
Beyond this tragedy and the attacks of 2015, we will have the immense honor of discussing with the three cartoonists about their profession, current events, politics, the Covid …
All three are part of the “Cartooning for Peace” association which brings together more than 200 cartoonists from different countries. It makes the designers dialogue with each other. It publishes cartoons for the press, and gives visibility and support to cartoonists who are prevented from freely exercising their profession or whose freedom is threatened.
