The artist Natalie Bauer-Lechner met the young musician in 1876 at the Vienna Conservatory. She supported him from the start. Until his marriage to Alma, she was his soul mate and a critical observer of his early compositions. Their conversations later enabled him to write Souvenirs. Évelyne Bloch-Dano, through her book published by Stock, allows us to better understand this relationship, the stakes of a work and of its time.
