The Samuel Bak Museum is hosting an exhibition of Lithuanian artist Neemiya Arbit Blat (1908, Kaunas-1999, New York) entitled “Arbit Blat: A Modernist Shaped by the Theatre”.

Neemiya Arbit, an artist who has dabbled in painting, stage design and sculpture, has permeated galleries and stages around the world. Trained as a young man in the École de Paris during his stay in the city of the same name, he moved to New York in 1939. There he met Regina Resnik, whom he later married and who introduced him to the world of theatre.

The works presented in the exhibition highlight these different influences as well as his collaborations, notably with his Marcel Marceau and his links to Pablo Picasso and Maurice Utrillo.
