The Jewish Museum of Greece is a wonderful place to visit, taking you to a re-discovery of Greece’s very ancient history, from an engraved menorah to photos of Jewish soldiers fighting for their country. Here’s our interview with its director, Zanet Battinou, concerning the events presented at this year’s European Days of Jewish Culture…

Which event will mark the opening of the European Days of Jewish Culture 2025?
Zanet Battinou: On Sunday, September 28, 2025, the Jewish Museum of Greece will inaugurate the European Days of Jewish Culture with a family educational activity: “A Page from Our Own Book”. It will take place between 11:00–12:30 & 13:00–14:30. It’s meant for children between the ages of 6 and 12, accompanied by their parents/guardians. It will be presented in Greek but with English materials available for foreign visitors. The goal of this activity is to enhance understanding of the importance of the written word in Jewish culture, to promote dialogue between generations, and to highlight storytelling as a tool for preserving identity and hope.
What other events are organized within the framework of EDJC 2025?
This year our program also includes educational programs for school groups and adults; as well as special thematic guided tours of the permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Has the Jewish Museum of Greece received new exhibits this year?
Yes. In 2025, the museum’s collection was enriched with 203 new objects, which have been incorporated into its documentation and exhibition material, further enhancing public understanding of Greek Jewish history.
Is there an evolution in the perception of Jewish culture in Greece after October 7?
After October 7, 2023, there has been an increase in vandalism of Jewish monuments (Larissa, Thessaloniki, Volos, Ioannina) and intense rhetoric of polarization, according to the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece. The tensions in the Middle East often reignite prejudices, highlighting the need for constant vigilance and systematic education about Jewish history and heritage.
