As part of the inaugural conference of the 2025/2026 season of the Maimonides-Averroes-Thomas Aquinas University Institute, speakers will present the different stages in the construction of the city of Montpellier. They will discuss the city’s origins, its cultural diversity, and Montpellier’s economic and intellectual development. Thanks to the Edict of Guilhem VIII, Montpellier became a city of tolerance where communities, cultures, religions, and interfaith scholarly elites engaged in close exchanges, particularly in the fields of medicine and philology.
With the participation of Michaël Delafosse, Mayor of Montpellier, Christine Feuillas, Director of the Montpellier Municipal Archives, Pierre-Joan Bernard, Heritage Conservation Assistant at the Montpellier City Archives, Fabrice Bertrand, Historian, and Michaël Iancu, Doctor of History and Director of the Maimonides Institute.
