I apologise if I’m going to offend the sensibilities of many Israelis by stating this without any hesitation: the falafels you can enjoy in Vienna are delicious and easily rival those in Israel! And just to ruffle the feathers of both Viennese and Israelis, I’ll also state quite bluntly that the best falafels in the world can be enjoyed in Antwerp, at Beni Falafel! But let’s get back to Vienna and this wonderful initiative by the Jewish Museum to offer guided tours through the heart of the city, exploring its Jewish past and present, before rounding off the morning with those marvellous falafels. The tours begin at the museum on Judenplatz, which showcases medieval Jewish history. This is followed by a stroll through the historic centre, ending at Dorotheergasse, home to the Jewish Museum, which presents Vienna’s contemporary history. The whole experience offers a chance to share in the arts, culture and contemporary life that bring this inspiring city to life.
