From 17 September 2027 to 23 April 2028 at the Jewish Museum Berlin
The Roaring Twenties – the 1920s – were indeed a time of exuberance in many countries. There was a thirst, a desire for life following the First World War and the realisation of the atrocities and the scale of the death toll. And so there was a need for carefree living and shared experiences, particularly in music. The ‘Schlager’ exhibition explores these complex issues, particularly those of memory, suppression, exclusion and exploitation, as well as belonging and identity through the arts. It does so by examining the journeys of certain Jewish figures in Berlin, from the 1920s to the 1980s.
