Every year, the Jewish Community of Vienna invites internationally renowned cantors to Vienna, alongside the great cantor Shmuel Barzilai, to introduce the Viennese public to this art form. The guest of honour for this year’s event is Shulem Lemmer. What makes the 2026 edition special is that it takes place to mark the reopening of the Wiener Stadttempel following extensive restoration work carried out to celebrate its 200th anniversary. The annual concert is one of the cultural highlights of Vienna’s Jewish community. Jews and non-Jews alike have the opportunity to take part in traditional prayers, ancient Jewish songs, religious tunes from the shtetl and timeless melodies from the liturgy, all presented in an authentic style.
