Toledo

The Sefardi Museum, located in the beautiful city of Toledo, organises numerous cultural events. Here’s our interview with Sonia Ferreras Ruiz, head of communications.

Jguideeurope: Which events will be organized for the month of Jewish Culture?

Sonia Ferreras Ruiz: This year at the Sefardi Museum, we have organised an extensive programme of activities related to the celebration of European Jewish Culture Month. Our main activity will be the screening of the documentary ‘Books: Alantansi’s Legacy’, an investigation into some incunabula from a medieval Hebrew printing press. The director of the documentary and two of the researchers who participated will be in attendance.

In addition to this event, we have also organised a guided tour of the museum’s collection under the slogan ‘the people of the Book’ and a gastronomy workshop to celebrate Rosh Hashanah.

You can find more information about the activities at the following links, but  I’m afraid it’s only in Spanish:

Has the museum received new objects recently?

For now, the museum has not received any new pieces for its collection, but we are in the process of receiving a donation of a sculpture by Sephardic artist Martina Lasry.

Is the museum particpating in educational projects with local students?

Every year, the museum establishes a programme of activities aimed at local students of different levels. This coming school year, the educational proposal has focused on organising visits around the theme of ‘culture for peace’ to promote peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and dialogue.

Have you perceived a growing interest in Jewish culture in the past 2 years?

In general terms, interest has remained steady, although we have noticed an increase in the number of visitors to the museum over the last two years. We have also grown on social media, and interactions with users have increased. The cultural activities we organise are also usually well received, which indicates that Sephardic culture continues to be of interest to the community.
