Madeira

The volcanic islands of Madeira are rich in vegetation and very popular with European holidaymakers, especially in summer.

While Portuguese Jewish life goes back a long way, to the height of the Middle Ages and the terrible days of the Inquisition, this region is linked to Portugal’s Jewish cultural heritage in a much more recent way, as in Funchal, where a community was established in the 19th century.
