Monsaraz is a village that has undergone many conquests and influences. It is known for the architectural richness of its ancient mansions and historic buildings dating back to the Middle Ages, as well as its castle. Stones dating back to the Neolithic period can still be found today.

The Jewish quarter was located around Rua Direita, close to the Igreja de Santiago church. As with the rest of the old city, the buildings of the old Jewish quarter are still very much in evidence, allowing visitors to recapture the atmosphere of the time as they stroll through the streets.
